Introduction

Organised by the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), BrainHack is a unique, hands-on experience into the swiftly evolving world of digital tech. Activities include:

  1. SeeTrue Workshops, which involves sieving through false information using deep learning techniques.

  2. TIL, where participants will learn about computer vision and audio processing

  3. Xrperience, where participants will learn about content creation using eXtended Reality

  4. Cyber Defenders Discovery Camp (CDDC), which is a jeopardy style Capture-the-flag competition that took place from 23 to 25 june 2021.

Task

We were given access to training materials hosted on cyber assembly from 28 May to 20 June to help prepare us for competition.

Training
Image is from CSA - SG Cyber Youth Odyssey - A.YCEP 2021, both programmes used the same provider

The competition was supposed to take place from 23 June 1000 to 25 June 1000. However, due to a backend issue, it was rescheduled to 23 June 1900 to 25 June 1900.

Mission
UI of the competition site. Incidentally, I did not choose the image, it was assigned to me

Reflections

Sadly, due to scheduling conflicts, overall lack of experience and knowledge, my team and I were unable to capture many flags. However, despite not being very successful in the competition itself, I still walked away from the event learning more about cybersecurity in general.
